Dec. 16, 2024, Austin, Texas – The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) has announced the allocation of nearly $13 million in grants to higher education institutions across Texas. These funds are distributed through the Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education (TRUE) Grant Program.

The TRUE Grant Program is designed to align with the state's strategic plan for higher education, known as "Building a Talent Strong Texas." It aims to create, expand, or redesign workforce education and training credential programs in high-demand fields.

"In the fast-growing, innovative Texas economy, it is critical that workforce education and training keeps pace to continue that success," said Interim Commissioner of Higher Education Sarah Keyton. "These grants support Texas higher education institutions as they develop programs to prepare our workforce for the future and keep our state at the forefront in a demanding, ever-changing economy."

A variety of institutions received funding through this initiative. Notable grantees include Alamo Colleges District, Alvin Community College, Amarillo College, Austin Community College, Brazosport College, Central Texas College, Cisco College, Coastal Bend College, Collin County Community College District, Dallas College (in consortium with Hill College and Paris Junior College), Del Mar College, El Paso Community College among others.

The TRUE Grant Program was established by the 87th Texas Legislature. Programs funded by TRUE must be shorter than six months in duration and should be industry-aligned in high-value/high-demand fields. They are developed with input from key workforce stakeholders such as workforce boards and economic development corporations.
