Bitcoin mining company Genesis Digital Assets Limited (GDA) has announced that its Rowdy Data Center is now operational.
According to an August 29 press release attributed to GDA, the North Texas data center, which is supported by Oklaunion Substation, is currently running at 60 megawatts (MW).
The press release also noted that GDA recently opened centers in South America and Sweden, with more expected in the future.
Oklaunion Power Station (OPS) Board Chair and Dallas Cowboys Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Tom Walker said in the release that GDA’s business is a natural fit. "This project clearly demonstrates that Bitcoin mining creates entirely new dynamics for the energy industry and can generate unprecedented opportunities for innovation in the sector," Walker said.
GDA touts the Rowdy Data Center as the source of a return of dozens of jobs that were lost because of the retirement of the OPS project that occurred in September 2020. The company stated that 12 permanent jobs and around 150 construction jobs have been created.
GDA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andrey Kim said in the release that the data center is a particularly important location for his company’s operations.
