Texas State Senate Member, Paul Bettencourt, has announced a record $18.1 billion cut in property taxes. He revealed via Twitter that his office has been inundated with calls of gratitude from the public.
Bettencourt stated, "It’s one thing to pass a record $18.1 billion of property tax cuts, but another thing to get these calls telling me it’s working for Texas' homesteads and businesses all over the state!". He added, "My Senate office and I have been receiving a constant stream of 'Thank you' calls this week from very happy taxpayers".
The Texas Senate informs that Bettencourt was first elected to serve district seven in 2014. Known for his dedication to addressing taxpayer needs and community service, he earned his bachelor's degree in industrial distribution from Texas A & M University.
According to the State of Texas Senate, the SB2 bill passed in 2023 promised reduced property tax bills for taxpayers. It is anticipated that homeowners with escrow accounts will soon see an Independent School District (ISD) reduction in their mortgages. Bettencourt offered guidance for those who do not see this reduction, stating, "Texas! If you're not seeing it on your Homestead or business property tax bill give my office a call so we can check it out."
Ballot Pedia explains that the Texas state senate forms part of the legislative branch of government. The senate's primary responsibilities include passing policy-related bills, setting government spending levels, and managing tax reductions and progressions.
