The Texas Wildlife and Parks Department warns hunters to report their game during deer hunting season via various apps for research of CWD samples, on Nov 21st. This initiative is aimed at understanding and controlling the spread of chronic wasting disease among the deer population.
The move to encourage reporting is not restricted to specific types of hunting or seasons.
According to Cleburne Times-Review, the reporting isn't just for antlerless deer season but also youth and muzzle deer. The main target of the data is attributing to the research of the disease CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease). Keeping this disease in check means keeping the population that have this disease slim. Specific regulations for certain counties are still being applied; for instance, counties who are populated with archery hunting only.
In order to ensure a comprehensive collection of data, specific guidelines have been laid out by authorities.
According to Shelby County Today, the submission of data for this game seems simple yet seemingly understandable. Reports have to be done within 24 hours of harvest throughout the twenty-one counties mentioned. Some counties may include De Witt, Karnes, Lavaca, Wilson, Travis, Washington and Wharton.
Beyond merely submitting reports, hunters from all areas are urged to contribute samples for analysis.
According to Waxahachie Sun, this reminder applies to surveillance and containment zones as well. Samples may be submitted by local biologists, TPWD check stations and CWD zones on the TPWD website. Those outside of these zones are encouraged to send in data as well through these areas.
