State Representative Jarvis Johnson of House District 139 announced his bid to serve the constituents of Texas Senate District 15 as the Texas Legislature continues to play games with the lives of children and seniors. and everyday Houstonians.

"I have been on the battlefield while right-wing extremists have attacked our communities, stripped away women's reproductive rights, politicized flooding projects, and underfunded our public schools while pushing voucher scams," stated Rep. Johnson.

Johnson, a lifelong Houstonian, knows the importance of local and state governments working together. No stranger to service, before serving on the Houston City Council, Johnson ran an education nonprofit committed to providing opportunities to Houston's most vulnerable students and communities. In 2005, he was compelled to run for office to continue to serve his community.

"It has been my honor to serve in the Texas House for the last seven years. I have fostered relationships across the aisle while maintaining the fight for Democratic principles to get things done for every Texan. I want to expand that footprint of service to S015."

While the Texas Legislature underfunded the public education system, Johnson authored bills to expand vocational education to prepare our children for the ever-changing workforce. As a member of the budget-writing committee, he secured millions of additional dollars for public schools in Houston and local institutions of higher learning.

Johnson is a fierce public safety advocate. He serves as vice-chair of two public safety committees, where he stood up to the NRA to pass a bipartisan gun reform bill aimed at keeping our children safe from school shootings. Al the root of Johnson's work is creating a safe place for all Texans to thrive.

"From the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and Winter Storm Uri to a failing electrical grid and the ongoing challenges of COVIO, we've been through a lot," says Johnson. "The people of SO 15 deserve an experienced leader who has the know-how to solve real problems everyday Houstonians are facing."

Johnson looks forward to hearing from residents, businesses, and community groups to learn, share, and strategize how to create a better Texas and more prosperous Senate District 15.
