Rep. Benjamin Bumgarner (R-Roanoke) tweeted on Sept. 5 that he's excited that he will lead the Texas Young Republican Federation's (TYRF) Subcommittee on Cartels and Human Trafficking.
"I am honored that I was tapped to lead this subcommittee," he wrote. "I look forward to working with this great group to come up with some real-time trafficking solutions and thwart the cartels' effort to smuggle children and drugs into the country via our border."
"Excited to announce Rep. Ben Bumgarner as our sponsor and guiding force for our Subcommittee on Cartels and Human Trafficking! With his leadership, TYRF is committed to impactful policies that safeguard all Texans. Thank you @Bumgarner4HD63 for leading the way forward," the Texas Young Republican Federation tweeted.
The TYRF is an advocacy group with 24 chapters and more than a thousand members aged 18 to 40, its website says. Its main goal is to further the Republican voice and standpoint across the state of Texas and to help Republican leaders be elected to positions throughout each level of the governmental system. Some of the group's main topics of discussion include parental rights in education, banning COVID-19 vaccine mandates, the end of gender modification and securing the Texas border, the website says.
Benjamin Bumgarner graduated from Austin College and then served on the Flower Mound town council and as Flower Mound’s mayor pro tem. He now represents District 63, made up largely of Flower Mound, Lewisville and surrounding towns, his official biography says. He is a member of the House Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee and the Committee for International Relations and Economic Development.
