As the illegal immigration problem at the southern U.S. border becomes increasingly worse, former high-ranking officials and illegal immigration experts are raising alarm at the human rights violations being committed at the border.
On Friday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that he was taking action. He declared that he is mobilizing the national guard to stop illegal immigration, which is occurring at record-breaking pace. The move comes following the release of data by the Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
On Twitter, Abbott said, "The Texas National Guard is stopping illegal border crossings into Texas. We're doing Biden's job to secure the border."
A total of 1.95 million apprehensions have been made by Border Patrol Agents at the southern border during fiscal year 2022, which runs from October 2021 to September 2022. During the period between October 2020 and September 2021, there were 1.73 million arrests at the southern border, which is higher than the number last year.
Approximately 2 million arrests are expected by the end of fiscal year 2022, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Immigration enforcement is being tightened by Abbott amid rising arrest numbers at the border. A key feature of Abbott's second reelection bid was busting thousands of migrants seeking asylum to New York and Washington.
In addition, Abbott ordered more stringent inspections of semi-trucks and tractor trailers crossing the border from Mexico and deployed National Guard troops to the border.
According to Fox News, investigative reporter Sara Carter recently interviewed a Central American human smuggler.
During the interview, the smuggler, who was being interviewed under the condition of anonymity, explained that he is “the guy who takes people to the U.S. – immigrants, to be exact,” and works as a smuggler because he likes “to take the risk of doing it, and I knew that people would get a lot of money out of it.”
Smuggling children across the U.S.-Mexico border remains a serious concern for the anonymous human smuggler despite his illicit trade.
He said that drug cartels are “asking for children, for them to traffic with drugs and everything.”
After concluding her interview with the anonymous human smuggler, Carter declared that “I want the American people to understand what kind of monsters these people are and what they are willing to do to children and what the Biden administration is doing by perpetuating this border chaos."
